Whirlwind
Rebecca Holley
I am an artist living and working in the small village of Lapford in Mid Devon, UK. I gained a Fine Art Degree in Sculpture from Bath School of Art and Design in 1992. I practice all forms of art but my main area of focus is hand hooked textiles.
In my textiles I use an old traditional technique to produce contemporary artwork using 100% reclaimed fabrics. I like to compliment my textiles with supporting artworks. Wherever possible I reclaim my materials.
Designing the pieces can be a lengthy process from the initial idea through to the final design, using drawings, photographs, collage, printmaking and even photocopying.
Inspiration for my work is wide ranging and has previously included forms and occurrences in nature, interesting or unusual structures and microscopic images. Sometimes my work is developed through an historical or cultural theme.
My current work is inspired by OS maps of the South West of England, visits to sites of specific interest and local place names.
