Collagraph by Sharon Bruster
Treasured #1
Sharon Bruster
Sharon Bruster is an inter-disciplinary artist from North Cornwall. Painting, drawing, collagraphy printmaking, collage, writing haiku, and alternative process photography are the focus of her creative practice. She also actively seeks out and nurtures creative collaboration with other artists as a mechanism for extending her practice.
Surrounded by the wild and stunning coastal landscape of the ‘Seven Bays’ area, Sharon’s work is largely inspired by the water’s edge and the littoral space between low and high tide. As she walks on the beach or coastpath, she photographs the details that catch her eye and gathers ‘tiny treasures’ – pebbles, shells, bits of driftwood or seaweed seem to magically find their way back to the studio and are regular motifs in her work.
Very much driven by process and a love of exploration and experimentation, Sharon is stimulated by working with new materials and approaches and aims for each collection of work to express anew her love of and connection with the coast.
Sharon studied at Newlyn School of Art over several years, completing two years of intensive professional practice development in June 2023.
In 2023 she also co-founded and now organises Prime Women Artists, a network for women artists in Cornwall. The network aims are: to build an informal community for women artists, to enable creative collaboration and mutual support, to support practice development, to create opportunities to raise the profile of women in the arts in the County and to show work. Prime now has over 130 members.
