Soft Pastel & Pastel Pencil by Charlotte Partridge
Swan at Galmpton Creek
Charlotte Partridge
I enjoy creating realistic images using soft pastel and pastel pencil. I look for the reflections and light in a subject, using colour to create the optical illusion of realism. Creating definition with pastels can be challenging. I enjoy blending and manipulating them to get the exact effect I am looking for. Masking parts of the page and building layers allows for greater definition as the piece develops.
In the absence of a studio, my pictures are always created at the kitchen table of my busy family home. I am the mother of two young children and was inspired to start drawing this way during lockdown to mentally escape and keep my mind busy.
I have no formal qualifications in art and I am self-taught in the techniques I use but I have a love for the challenge, the opportunity to create and the thought processes required to get from a blank sheet to a finished piece.
