Lorraine Gilroy is a ceramic sculptor with a background in fine art, studio ceramics, and art history. Her practice explores themes of ritual and heritage through the use of sustainably foraged clay, grounding her work in the landscapes of the Southwest. Her sculptures are fired in a variety of methods, including oxidation, gas reduction, raku, barrel, and anagama kilns, encouraging chance flame effects that enhance the natural tones of her materials.

Recently, Lorraine has expanded her work to include larger sculptures crafted from steamed oak and stainless steel. Her current focus investigates hope (Dóchas in Gaelic) as a transformational force, expressed through a sculptural series that incorporates photographs of the locations where each piece was foraged. This series reinterprets personal grief and loss, transforming it into a message of resilience and future hope. Lorraine exhibits at galleries and ceramic fairs across the Southwest, reflecting her deep connection to place and process.
