Michelle Greenwood Brown
Michelle Greenwood Brown is a professional ceramicist and mosaic maker based in Teignmouth.
Through observation of the natural world and experimentation she has developed her own distinctive way of working.
She makes all her own pieces, a mixture of sprigs, carved clay and imprints from organic forms. These could be made in either earthenware or stoneware, depending on whether the artwork is intended for an indoor or outdoor setting. Once Michelle has made all the individual pieces the process of bringing them all together takes many hours. She aims to achieve a balanced, but natural appearing composition, capturing the wildness of tangled undergrowth. The finished artwork will reflect the season in which it was made and the wild birds encountered in her garden or on walks in the woods. The majority of her work is wall-based, but she has completed several outdoor public art commissions, all with a nature theme.
