Gaynor Sâdlo
Gaynor Sâdlo b1948 has been working with ceramics since her 20’s, originally with Meira Cummings’ tutelage, following a course in sculpture at the South Australian School of Art. In the 1960’s her education in occupational therapy incorporated many hours mastering various crafts. In the 1980’s she established a clay studio with Alex Sádlo in Berkshire, often creating joint works.
Gaynor focused on construction (throwing, coiling and slab) while Alex painted the pieces with his intricate designs. She also created work to her own designs.
In 2023 Gaynor was selected for the competitive Ceramics Fair at the Towner Gallery in Eastbourne, and she exhibits with Greenfinch Gallery, Ticehurst. Her latest works were shown at Alex’s 2024 retrospective “Figures in Movement” at Gallery@42, Eastbourne. Gaynor was Professor of Occupational Science (the underlying science of occupational therapy) at the University of Brighton, retiring in 2015.

This work reflects Gaynor’s current project, which is to bring to reality, Alex’s 110 designs for ceramics, and painting them as well (a new avenue for her) with underglaze designs from Alex’s extensive portfolio of drawings.
