Marion Adams
Marion Adams has lived in Devon for most of her life. Her interest in art began early, and when she wasn’t drawing, she was reading up on art history. In her twenties, she took life classes and focused on drawing in charcoal and pencil and working with pastels. While juggling the demands of raising a family and a writing career, she kept her art inspiration alive through helping her children with their creative projects and developed a lasting interest in collage.
Since returning to her regular art practice, Marion has taken in-depth courses on a range of subjects including digital art, mixed media and intuitive composition. In 2020, she completed the Creative Visionary Program (CVP), an intensive 12-week course led by Californian abstract artist Nicholas Wilton.
Marion currently works with a variety of media, including acrylic, gouache, ink and pencil. Her main focus is abstract painting and collage. She draws inspiration from coast and field, woodland and moorland – landscapes of shifting light, colour, texture and sound that evoke or even demand a deep emotional response. Marion is also a published poet, and as with poetry, her approach to art is intuitive and experimental. While being grounded in the natural elements of her surroundings, Marion’s art focuses on the interplay between clarity and ambiguity, memory and imagination, and longing and belonging.
Marion is a member of Devon Artist Network. Her work has been exhibited by Artizan Gallery (English Riviera Winter Open, Small Works Exhibition), London-based gallery The Holy Art (virtual exhibition: The Metamorphosis) and online gallery Fragile Express
