Run For Your Life
Gill Jones
I originally qualified with a B. Ed in Creative Arts - drama, dance, music and art and went on to teach these subjects. I became director of courses at the Beaford Arts Centre and later joined the Education Advisory Service running arts courses for teachers, as well as helping and advising them in their own schools. I co-directed the County Youth Theatre and founded and directed the County Youth Dance Company.
After early retirement I decided to set myself some new challenges and studied for and gained First Class Honours in a B.A. Fine Art, working mainly with film and photography. My subject then was the human figure and the vulnerability of Man. Records of this work are in Goldsmith’s Special Collections Library on Women’s Art.
Since then I have been living and making art in North Devon, enjoying and finding inspiration from the scenery and weather of the moors and shores. The work here today is in watercolour. I enjoy its fluidity and the sometimes risky nature of working so loosely! But I have always worked in a variety of media to suit different ideas, and often explore themes, both figurative and abstract, through oils and acrylics, printmaking and 3D.
