Rookery And The A65
Joanna Walter
My current practice is focused on my childhood memories and the nature of memory and how intense that experience can be. Memory is not a fixed or static place. Visualising familiar scenes from my past shift and change through my childish vision. I grew up in south Cumbria and feel very connected to the nature of the land - small farms and rounded hills and the mountains beyond. I've painted the view from our family home and its interiors without reference to photographs and each time I am there and a child again so that trees grow huge, lanes twist and hills roll. Our dining room becomes a warm haven.
I graduated from Newport College of Art in 1982 with a BA Hons degree in Fine Art and now live and work in Bristol. I have a studio at St Annes House Brislington.
