Pebbles (light)
Helen Allen
I have a background in architecture and landscape / garden design which influences the two core themes in my work drawing inspiration from landscape and urban spaces, enjoying the sharp contrast between the two - exploring Brutalist urban architecture of cities and scenes of the fishing industry and beautiful landscape in Devon.
My work is a mix of processes and prints using linocut, wood engraving, and intaglio. I like to use a process that fits the subject matter in terms of the level of detail and texture required. I particularly like the alchemy of the aquatint process - despite careful planning and timings in the acid you never quite know what you are going to get until the very end. I like the contradiction and tension between control and chance.
