Oakwood Bluebells

I have a great passion for the outdoors and nature as it gives me a sense of calm. After spending the past 16 months at home recovering from Long Covid, I was craving to immerse myself back into nature. So I headed out into the countryside to get my fix, to smell the fresh salty sea air and feel the prickly grass underfoot once again.

 

I often escape to the coast whenever I need to spend some time outside. I love to walk the coastal path drawing inspiration from the beauty found in nature, capturing the essence of the landscapes and energy of the places I visit. I often bring some pencils and a sketchpad so I can directly respond to what I see as it unfolds in front of me, translating these sketches into large scale paintings when I'm back in the studio.

 

My paintings often aren't seen as true to life but instead you get a glimpse of the world through my eyes. I am attracted to bright bold colours and this becomes the main focal point for the paintings, often becoming more saturated and colourful. When I focus on layering up the colours rather than details and forms it creates a vibrant impressionable landscape.

 

I work in the acrylic medium, applying the paint onto the canvas with a mixture of brushes, sponges and often my own hands. I like the vibrancy the acrylic has whilst also being fast drying which helps me to gain lots of movement on the canvas because I have to work quickly. With every stroke of the brush I'm trying to convey the awe-inspiring energy that nature offers through the use of vibrant hues and bold brushwork. Each painting becomes a portal inviting the viewers to immerse themselves in the natural world and embark on their own imaginative journey.
