Stoneware by Kate-Lyons Miller
Night Sky Bowl
Kate Lyons-Miller
I live and work on Dartmoor, Devon. The clays and rocks I'm surrounded by inform my work with texture, colour, age and heft.
My fascination with the vessel is a constant, jars and bowls are carriers and holders, of things or ideas.
The mark of the makers hand is strong in these jars, emphasising the clay as a material with a definite personality; I add rocks and minerals from my environment to create a sense of a place, connecting the work to the land.
Using material from the land both holds and disperses my ideas in a simple bowl form, ‘the vessel as a signifier, a container of meaning and of ideas’. Emmanuel Cooper.Black Stoneware with Inclusions and Additions of Feldspathic Dartmoor Minerals, Ash Glaze on an Acrylic Plinth
