Latifah Stranack
Hello, my name is Latifah, and I am an Anglo-Omani artist based in London. I am passionate about creating a dialogue with the viewer that promotes tolerance, understanding and harmony between genders and cultures. I communicate this through the subjects I explore in my drawings, paintings, mixed media installations and stop-motion animations.
Since graduating from the RCA and Slade, I have painted to reflect upon my identity and question my fascination with the delicate boundaries of belonging, censorship, gender and sexuality. Creating culturally hybrid worlds by using mythology, archival imagery, historical art references, fashion magazines, and photos of my body or people I know.
I use a mixed media technique of spray paint, acrylic, oil and pigment sticks, varying my mark-making from thick impasto to areas that reveal the grain of the canvas.
My work concerns female empowerment, acceptance, autonomy, sisterhood, and intuition. My paintings reflect our times; the female story is political and relevant.
