Oil and Mixed Media by Kathy Nettles
Moonlight on Fading Roses
Kathy Nettles
I'm an artist living in an old Devon farmhouse on what was old farmland. The now somewhat manicured gardens and farmland occupied by horses and donkeys are forever trying to return to their natural state. It is this sense of tension between the two that have inspired my recent subject matter as I explore the duality of the flora and fauna, from the wild and delicate often overlooked plants, to the exuberant, beautiful hothouse versions often paraded as the ideal.
My approach to painting ranges from semi-abstract to abstract. I relish the physicality of oil paint and the act of painting as I suggest emotions, movement and atmosphere of the environment. I use a variety of media including charcoal, pigments, and oil and cold wax.
From the Hedgerow series -Rich oils and fluid mixed media on exhibition-grade canvas.
