Eloise Dethier-Eaton
Eloise Dethier-Eaton is a Belgo-British artist whose multi-disciplinary practice includes painting, paper marbling, printmaking and photography.
In her still life compositions, she combines objects and images from personal and collective archives - sourced from her travels, art history and so on. Eloise enjoys playing with pattern and analogy to weave these objects' stories together and explore her own curious narratives. Using this visual pairing process allows her to map out the interconnectedness of things so that slow looking becomes a way of seeking meaning as well as an act of pleasure and indulgence.
She also draws upon the decorative to reflect on subjects like the environmental challenges we face today, and to examine the various notions of aesthetic, material, economic and emotional value we attribute to objects. She employs visual means to explore the impacts of our ways on the environment, with topics ranging from plastic pollution to fast fashion.
Eloise graduated with a Fine Art & History of Art degree at Goldsmiths in 2018 and completed an apprenticeship in paper marbling at Marmor Paperie in 2020. She currently lives and works in London.
