White Earthenware, Sgraffito Relief on Wooden Block by Stefania D'Amico
Homeward Trees
Stefania D'Amico
Stefania D’Amico has always loved mark making, and the sgraffito process lends itself to this, it has the same feel and a similar look as lino print and a drawing with pen and ink.
Wildlife and nature have an impact, love of her garden, and the structure of trees and the shadows that come from the sun on the valley, and the reflection of the trees on the river Tamar.
Monochrome lends itself meaning to Stefania’s work and the process of layering, although the layers are two-dimensional panels they make a three-dimensional story, giving shadow and structure to her work. The panels tell a story, like a pop-up book from her childhood.
Stories and legends from Dartmoor and the Tamar valley, where she lives near prehistoric sites and burial mounds have impacted on her work
