High Tide
Rafael Pedrosa Dorado
My name is Rafael, I was born in Madrid, and I have a degree in fine arts. I have lived in different cities in Spain, France and Italy to continue my training and work. I currently reside in London.
I am interested in art and how it can be used in education. I have participated many exhibitions, this year I was selected for the Chelsea Art Fair, I had a solo exhibition in Murcia, Spain and now I am participating in 'Colours' which is an exhibition at The Stone Gallery, London.
Since my arrival in the United Kingdom, I have been lucky enough to have spent a lot of time in North Devon, being able to observe its maritime heritage and get to know the rivers Taw and Torridge and the consequences of climate change on the riverbanks and the effects on the urban centres of this area and in particular Appledore where one of the Tide Bells is situated which is the focus for this project. In this work several themes are intertwined and explored which alludes to the complexity of the subject.
This painting shows the biological and natural wealth offered by the seas and rivers through the play of colour, organic forms, brushstrokes and the landscape itself.
High Tide shows the horizon line high, appearing threatening, alluding to the rise in sea levels. My painting is not intended to be catastrophic but aims to show where warning signs and natural beauty complement each other. Another element that is presented is the silhouette of the bell from the ‘Time and Tide Bell project, alluding to the idea of warning but also that we are still on time.Acrylic on Paper 300gr
