Freedom

A contemporary pastel artist creating semi abstract paintings based on locations around the South-West, where I live. From hidden gems to popular spots, where childhood memories were made and family holidays are spent, my work is always based on reality but uses a loose abstract approach. I believe a landscape should not reflect a photographic representation of a scene, but instead capture the mood and emotional connection to the place and moment in time. With bold expressive marks, layers of texture and vivid colours, focusing more on atmosphere, energy, and emotion, that leads the viewer to make their own personal connection.

You'll often find me with the family, exploring the coast and the moors, soaking up the colours and the ever-changing atmosphere. Inspired by my time spent outside, constantly awed by the colour, shape and texture found in nature, and bringing what I can of that feeling back to the studio and on to paper.
