Fragile Earth 2019_1
Jane Hogson
Jane is a mid-career artist with 30 years of creative background. Her ongoing narrative is the celebration of our great landscape, cross-referenced to our destruction of our planet. A shift this year is to using the fully organic transparent material, as a ground to work on, alludes to the need for all of us to care more about the damage of using plastics; this coupled with oil paint (more abuse of the planet), but painted in bright transparent earth and sea colours with added gold and ferrous powders, aims to remind us of the beauty and richness that is our earth, that we need to treasure.
Janes work is mounted away from the background so light can play through the translucent oil paint and organic film creating shadows of colour, moving as the light changes. This abstracted seascape alludes to the pollution of plastic within our seas and Janes concern of our environmental damage, yet her love of colour and our landscapes she wants to bring inside. Her work is unglazed, allowing the painting to hang freely and unconstricted. The ground is asymmetrical deliberately. The painting is protected by an acrylic coating.
Please note: A particular property of the organic film means the work may change and bend depending on the climate conditions where it is displayed; this is purposeful - our earth never stays the same.Jane hopes you enjoy her work - the organic material to remind us to be more careful, the colour, ferrous powders and gold as celebration of beauty and richness, the underlying narrative - our planet is changing, we need to take care, but it is still beautiful
