Lee Pover
Ceramic UNESCO Geopark Ambassador Representative artist Lee Pover, hails from the picturesque fishing town of Brixham on the South Coast. Living by the sea you can see the influence it has and how it plays a big part in her life and work. Part of a family of great sailors, she is found regularly out on the open water or else exploring the hard to reach corners of the Torbay coastline.
It is from these sources and excursions that both the inspiration and materials for her work are gathered as she creates nautical themed mixed media works combining handmade ceramics with the bountiful rewards of beach combing trips with her family. Driftwood, flotsam and other odd bits cast ashore by the south-westerlies that hit our hidden coves and expansive beaches come together, to create wall hangings and free-standing sculptural pieces which capture the essence of Torbay’s marine environment, Brixham’s nautical history and the coastal life we are fortunate to witness across the English Riviera. “Living by the water, I have great respect for the strength and influences that the sea has on our coast and surroundings.”
“My art and crafts have a strong nautical theme with fishing trawlers, sailing boats, fishing village scenes alongside quirky interpretations of marine life. How can my work not be inspired by our beautiful surroundings that I am fortunate enough to live in?”
As well as being a Geopark Ambassador Representative Artist Lee is a member of the Devon Artist Network and a Committee Member for The Torbay Guild.
