Dowry Bag - Number 3 - Sunshine And Rain

I have always been drawn to texture, a strong need to view by touch as well as sight. It is therefore not surprising that fabrics and threads are my preferred choice of materials to convey my thoughts. 

 

As an experienced hand and machine stitcher I manipulate threads, often using non-traditional fibres, to embellish and decorate fabric and mixed media surfaces. The backgrounds that I work on are prepared using methods such as dying, painting, rusting, printing, burning and scraping. However, I am still so interested and curious in my craft that newly discovered techniques are constantly being added to my 'toolkit'. 

 

Whilst I often find the natural world an inspiration, my imagination can be captured by a book, a song, an emotional response an article, travels - anything that lingers in my mind. That lingering thought may take months to swirl around before a starting point becomes clear. 

 

The online access to so many images can be both exciting and distracting, but I strive to narrate the story in my head and convert it to a physical representation.
