Charlotte Sainsbury
With a background in ceramics and an MA in Multi-disciplinary Printmaking from UWE, Bristol, my love of surface texture is apparent in my work. Inspired by my surroundings of the Tamar estuary and Rame Peninsula in Cornwall, I create paintings and collagraph prints using strong colour, structural shapes and surface detail as a direct response to my environment of boatyards, docks and harbours.
I try to reflect these influences using a variety of materials including oil paint, mixed with cold wax medium, and collagraph printmaking, both of which are excellent methods for producing the surface detail that I love. Each of my prints, although taken from one master plate, are inked up in an individual way which makes them unique, though part of an edition.
