Rosie Rowell is currently a third year contemporary abstract painter studying Painting, Drawing and Printmaking BA (hons) at Plymouth College of Art.
“My practice determines to question common preconceptions of painting, moving away from the two-dimensional surface and drawing interest fromtheoretical approaches surrounding theconcept of both materiality and deconstruction. Thorough research and experimentation have drawn me to approach work more recklessly, with a drive to work in ways I would not otherwise have considered before. A newfound appreciation for textiles has encouraged me to incorporate different materials into my paintings, as well as using sewing as a method of drawing. My work now encompasses varyingtechniques combining painting, sculptureand fabric in a new aesthetic focus. My work is no longer a response to the aesthetic features of internal or external space, but more an exploration of the theoretical approaches that now inform my sense of aesthetics. This has allowed me to experiment with a new understanding of materiality, and an appreciation of the beauty of a deconstructed painterly practice”.Mixed Media | Acrylic Paint and Thread on Canvas
