D' arch 07
Ian McConaghy
After a career as an architect, I set up my art practice in Bristol in 2012, to explore sculpture, painting, screen-printing, collage, drawing and writing. Early themes ranged across music, architecture, and literature, and examined the behaviour of humans in their environment. Around this time, I started work on a novel which became Neuworld. It's set in 2200 and contemplates a post-apocalyptic future, with an elite society indulging in genetic engineering and organic computers, while less fortunate survivors learn to recycle the remains of their devastated world.
This theme has continued since I moved to Torquay. Initial ideas were explored in large charcoal drawings, later pastel sketches and finally working in acrylic. My current methodology is a hybrid collage technique which uses magazines cuttings and acrylic painting. The D’arch series, I've submitted to the Winter show 2022, continues to explore architectural forms.
