Linocut by Jacqui Jones
Crow with Green
Jacqui Jones
Since retiring from teaching, I have been able to concentrate on developing my own art practice. My work is primarily relief printing and, more recently, non-toxic lithography.
Over the last few years my linocuts have tended to be geometric abstracts, and I have loved experimenting with bold colours. I favour the reduction technique, enjoying the challenge of planning the order of carving, layering and inking.
My lithographic work, on the other hand, is more representational and organic, particularly focusing on the natural world. It is a medium that allows me to use either photographs, drawing or layering a combination of both.
As I am concerned with reducing my impact on the environment, I work with either traditional lino or wood because both are fully compostable; and the lithographic plates I use are etched with ingredients such as cola, lemon juice and gum Arabic rather than industrial acids or solvents.
