Developing self expression has been a lifelong journey. After several careers, from military officer to company executive to leadership coach, I find myself now in the challenging and exciting position of possessing the ambition to express myself completely.
I have had a deep relationship with Devon for all of my life, but intermittently. This intermittence has allowed me to understand my own relationship with my life's journey, from young boy chasing ponies on Bellever Tor, to an experienced adult seeing the moors as metaphor for time, place and space.
Working with oil on canvas, I have been investigating landscape as a medium for understanding how we relate to these parallels tracks of time; the short, intense lifetime of a human compared to the seemingly eternal time of a stone or a Tor.
I have become increasingly interested in the challenge of showing the micro as well as the macro - the 'landscape' of the bed of the River Dart holding as much curiosity and insight as the high moors. How our awareness of our own emotions affects our relationship with the landscape is also central; water being an accessible and useful theme for this interplay.
