Brian’s Big Day Out
Carolyn Bonthrone
After a 30 odd year gap, I finally found the confidence to pick up a pencil again. I’ve always loved colour, texture, and design, and now work in several different mediums as I just cannot limit myself to one! I started selling charcoal dog portraits, and then during lockdown I had the time to try new images and techniques, and my swimmers were born. They represent what I feel and want to be, and sometimes what I am…
I think a lot of people see themselves in my images. The swimmers are often brave and facing up to their own fears…one foot in front of another and just having a go. I feel very lucky that they have been so successful in not only selling but being in many exhibitions and even winning Awards. I also love to draw and paint bees, birds, and dogs in a mixture of acrylics, watercolours, charcoal as well as pen and ink.
