Alexandra-Camelia Ghimisi
Alexandra is a professional artist, based in Nottinghamshire, collaborating with Inspire Culture as a part time Art Tutor, teaching adult learners painting techniques. Since 2018 she has been an exhibiting member of Nottingham Society of Artists.
For a time, Alexandra was a dedicated representational painter, making images based on direct observation. Gradually though, the emphasis of her work has changed. Now she uses spontaneous and intuitive mark making as a starting point for an approach where any conscious narrative is subordinated to the act of building a painting.
By adjusting, balancing and reacting to what goes on the canvas she seeks to find a coherent image. This involves accepting and working with the unexpected whilst at the same time enabling an image to emerge within a considered pictorial structure. It is an exhilarating and intriguing balancing act between the head, the hand and the heart.
In 2021 she had her first solo exhibition at the Nottingham Society of Artist Gallery.
Her goal as an artist is to continue to create and exhibit as much as possible. She wants to inspire others with her art and her story - to show people that anything is possible if dedicated and passionate about it.
Alexandra enjoys painting contemporary landscapes and abstract compositions. Her work is a celebration of light, revealed in rich and vibrant colours, using her personal visual language of fresh and direct brush marks. She uses vivid colours to excite the imagination, allowing viewers to explore their own experiences, shifting from dark to light as a metaphor for optimism and hope.
