The strong tides and rough seas of the Devon and Cornish coastline inspire my work. These large waves at sea and onshore have influence a series of oil paintings started 5 years ago that have amounted to 47 so far. The rivers around Dartmoor and long exposure photographic images of water have influence another series of paintings started recently. I am interested in looking at the way images are altered using this photographic technique and like the idea of taking it to another medium and exploring the results.
Born in Buckinghamshire, I move to Devon 14 years ago and am now based in Teignmouth, Devon. Painting from an early age it wasn't until I reached my mid 30's that I went to art school, graduating with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art in 2008 at the University of Plymouth. I have exhibited my paintings throughout Devon and gained an award at the Exeter Short Film festival. My films and photographs have been exhibited on the South Bank, London and in Italy.
I am a Teignmouth based artist. I am a member of the Devon Artist Network and a-n
'Atmosphere' is inspired by the wide open skies around my home in Teigmouth and on nearby Dartmoor. Also of childhood memories of lying back on a grassy bank and watching the clouds go by on a Summers day. This forms part of a new series of paintings looking at the skies and cloud formations. As an art ambassador for the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark part of my practice is to walk along the coastal paths that run throughout the Geopark. The views are constantly changing and give me a great source of colour and textural reference material.
