Katie Joy Hickling is a British Ceramic Artist living and working in South Devon, UK. She has previously worked as a digital artist and product designer in the UK and abroad. Katie is a member of the Craft Potters Association, has a first-class degree from the University of Exeter and a certification in Product Design from Central Saint Martins.

 

For Katie, the joyful connections between the natural world, history, mythology, and her coastal homeland acts as the signature inspiration for her work. Katie sculpts, coils, and throws her ceramic works using a buff stoneware clay, before painting creatures, characters and scenes using a mix of underglazes and oxides, in a palette of cobalt blue and vibrant orange. Katie is continually drawn to make representations of traditional pottery from all over the world and to depict birds, reptiles and fish, as well the nautical scenes that surround her in her hometown of Brixham, Devon UK.

 

Katie’s current collection ‘Our Common Pond’ comprises of stoneware plates depicting nautical themes celebrating the British coastline.
