Meri Croft
Meri Croft (b.1998) is a recent BA (Hons) Fine Art Graduate from the University of Leeds and the University of Lisbon. Croft is primarily an abstract and figurative painter. Her work explores thresholds, the border between inside and outside, and the liminal space that exist there.
Thresholds are not an end-point but a mid-point that allows for the fluid crossing of, or a wavering between two worlds. Focusing on capturing the state of the in-between, Croft’s paintings attempt to contain and solidify fluid and transient moments. Croft’s paintings highlight how two worlds can exist simultaneously, and be brought together to create a new and changed whole.
Drawn to the paradoxical nature of windows as a boundary, they often appear as a motif in her work. The window is simultaneously a threshold, a border/limit and an opening between the interior and exterior. Using fluid washes of colour against bold, bright and opaque shapes Croft attempts to contrast and contain the fleeting and temporary.Oil on Board
