Inspired by the belief in the perpetual virginity of Mary, the mother of God, contributes to certain societal attitudes that limit women's autonomy. How idealising virginity imposes unrealistic standards and places undue importance on a woman's sexual status, potentially leading to judgment or stigmatisation across many cultures.
