Gill Melling - Geopark Artist Residency - Studio Time





First day @artizangallery of my studio residency. Orientating myself with a bit of Seacell spinning for my net piece.



I've been carefully picking out seagrass seeds with tweezers ready for drying. These are just emerging from their husks but are unviable meaning they can't be used for replanting. They were donated to me to experiment with from the National Marine Aquarium.


Filling the words in my cuttlefish bone piece with dried seagrass seeds. I am going to need a few more! 


Beautiful shadows cast by my net. Made of seaweed fibre. It’s pretty mindful making it but also shoulder aching.


I'm making a tiny seagrass basket perhaps for a seahorse. A small one! We'll see. It's very fiddly.
