About our Speaker
This months speaker will be Kate Farmery, Executive Director of the Torbay Culture Board. The key purpose of the post is to work with the board to implement Torbay Council's Cultural Strategy, the main aims of which is to get more people involved in cultural activities, make the most of Torbay's cultural assets, from the coast and countryside to its buildings and ensure that culture contributes to Torbay’s social and economic development.
Kate has spent most of her career within the cultural sector, and came to this post from Manchester where she was heavily involved with shaping the overall cultural offer in Manchester and repositioning the city as a popular cultural tourism destination.
Kate will be telling us where we are now with the overall strategy, the highs and lows and what we have took forward to. which will include an update on the Great Place Scheme that will put art and culture at the heart of the future vision for the area. The grant will help to fund an ambitious project led by Torbay Culture Board that will make Torbay a great place to live, work, play and visit by promoting health and wellbeing, developing civic pride and making the most of the area’s natural beauty and rich heritage.
About the Exhibition
Raw Art Forum are a collective of artists united by a shared vision to provide a platform for open dialogue and support, and to create through collective effort and organisation, opportunities to show in a variety of selected venues. They seek to find, where possible, alternative routes to exhibiting, in addition to the current art pathways available to artists, and to continue to make the process of exhibiting a supportive and accessible procedure.
As part of this practice, Raw Art Forum members Aidan Cooper, Steve Neill, Jennifer Jayarajah and Fergus Cooper bring a group show of their explorative works to Artizan Gallery in May. Between them, work spans a spectrum of media including photography, collage, painting, sculpture and various composite works, exploring themes of feminism, visual culture, conflict and the modern media.
For more information on the show, visit our exhibition page.
