Lea Phillips

An Interplay of Colour and Texture

Lea Phillips

Function and Form

Lea Phillips is a ceramic artist whose work blends form, function, colour, and pattern. Based in her studio and shop, The Happy Crab Gallery in Weymouth, Lea creates colourful wheel-thrown ceramics, ranging from tableware to one-of-a-kind statement pieces.

Lea’s passion lies in throwing, surface design, and the interplay of colour and texture. Working with oxidised stoneware, she combines the depth and durability of stoneware glazes with the decorative freedom more commonly seen in low-fired ceramics. Each piece is individually decorated with free and abstract designs, built up through multiple layers of glazes crafted from her own recipes.

Her creative process is driven by continuous experimentation and glaze development, resulting in vibrant, tactile ceramics that are both functional and expressive. Lea’s pots reflect her love of craftsmanship and her playful approach to design.
