I am a multidisciplinary visual artist. I work primarily with textiles and experimental film photography. I am interested in the connection between creativity and mental health/well-being, and in art making for processing life experiences.
For the last two years I have been focusing my time on making art based in specific places and using natural resources from those places to create work. I have been making natural inks, natural dyes, natural pigments and using plant-based photographic developer to develop analogue photographs. Because the resources are from that specific place, the place itself is able to make its own mark on the work that I am creating. This practice has also encouraged me to think a lot more about the environmental impact of my work and to fully immerse myself in each new environment.
This relates directly to the residency opportunity at Torre Abbey and the question of ‘what happens when nature takes over’ as I am working with nature and issues of sustainability, climate and the environment in my work. I am seeking ways in which my art practice can continue whilst not negatively impacting the world around me.
