Caroline Aisher

From Foraged Clays

Caroline Aisher is a ceramic artist living on the edge of Dartmoor working in Stoneware clay. This natural world provides her playground, where she forages for wild clays and minerals to include in her work.

Finding inspiration from the haunting susurrations of the Silver Birch woodlands, she has been working on a series of Silver Birch vessels along with some wall hangings for a number of years. She uses different techniques combining wild clays foraged from Dartmoor and also the Isle of Wight.

Layering the wild clays and embedding natural materials into this process she is able to produce different results at various firing temperatures, thus making each piece totally unique.

She also finds the landscape of Dartmoor and the Coastline inspirational and enjoys using coloured clay slips to produce abstract landscapes on ceramic pieces.
