Bridget Macklin

A Compelling Narrative

Bridget Macklin is a ceramic artist whose work tells compelling stories about the landscape, with geology at its heart. She is inspired by the contorted, fractured layers that shape moors, mountains, cliffs, and coasts, but her art also reflects her concern for the damage inflicted on the Earth during the Anthropocene era.

Each of Bridget’s pieces is unique and delicate, blending porcelain with wild clays and natural materials. She embraces experimentation and risk, using high firing to enhance the translucent quality of the porcelain and to flux or burn the inclusions. This process creates tension within the clay, resulting in warping, craters, and splintered textures that amplify the narrative of her work.

Through her ceramics, Bridget captures both the beauty and vulnerability of the natural world, crafting works that resonate with the power and fragility of the Earth.
